Blog Question #19

Any new, changed, or solidified ideas about who was Moses?

  1. Moses was a radical prophet who led the Jewish people out of Egypt-with a little help from YHWH who appeared in many different forms: a burning bush, a staff, and the forces that split the red sea. we are not sure if these things actually happened, or if they are just symbols of God's power at work

  2. Moses and Judaism were both radical, Moses may have not even been a jew, some people refer to him as a law giver and moralist exc. Moses murdered a egyptian man who was beating a slave/ jew. He left egypt and got married. He had a son and then left his family to go and free the Jews from slavery in Egypt. It is believed by the Jews that God had helped or had led Moses to helping them, the burning bush that God spoke from, the parting of the red sea and the rules that God sent Moses down from Mt. Sinai with are all beliefs of the jews.

  3. Moses was a murderer that heard God through the form of a "burning bush." God told him that he was to free his people, The Israelites, and have then worship this mountain that they are on.

  4. Moses and Judaism was radical because it preached that communities be created based on the same belief.

  5. Being Christians, we are brought up thinking that Moses is a great religious hero that led our ancient ancestors out of slavery. While this true, a point that is commonly overlooked in your everyday Sunday school is why Moses was even in the desert when God spoke to him through a burning bush. Before fleeing into the desert, Moses had killed an Egyptian guard after Moses experienced the guard unjustly beating a Jewish slave. This point doesn't take away from the fact that historically Moses still set the Jews free from enslavement under the Pharaoh, but it does make Moses appear more human and imperfect.
